Shaping the Future of LegalTech in Georgia - Research Summary

As Nastavia, we are proud to present the report Digital Transformation of the Legal Profession in the AI Era: The Georgian Context, a comprehensive work that brings together months of structured research, stakeholder dialogue, and forward-looking analysis. The report follows a clear arc that begins with the immense opportunities offered by digital transformation, moves through the complex risks posed by modern AI systems, and concludes with a practical framework for ethical, resilient and sustainable adoption within Georgia’s legal community. It explores how court digitalization, workflow modernization, and AI-assisted tools can transform access to justice, while also confronting challenges such as algorithmic bias, data confidentiality, and the long-term impact of automation on professional development. The final sections outline the foundations of a regulatory-aware AI ecosystem, capacity-building needs, and a system-level roadmap for embedding trust, transparency and accountability into AI use across the sector.

We owe this achievement to the extraordinary collaboration that made it possible. Our sincere gratitude goes to the President of the Georgian Bar Association, David Asatiani, for his leadership and unwavering support, as well as to GBA Coordinator Tamta Devdariani, whose commitment ensured smooth cooperation throughout the process. We are equally thankful to the practitioners and law firms who shared real-world insights that deeply shaped the report, and to Academician Archil Prangishvili for his invaluable guidance. Even the intellectual legacy of Isaac Asimov, whose reflections on the ethical dimensions of technology continue to inspire global debates, resonated in our discussions as we examined the responsibilities associated with AI-driven transformation.

From our side at Nastavia, this work emerged from a strong sense of responsibility toward the future of the legal profession. We initiated it with the conviction that Georgia needs a clear, locally grounded framework to navigate the accelerating wave of digital innovation. The rationale behind the report is simple yet urgent: AI is reshaping every knowledge-based profession, and without thoughtful governance and shared understanding, its adoption may erode trust, widen inequalities, and undermine foundational legal values. Through this report, we aim to ensure that technology strengthens – rather than disrupts – the integrity of legal practice. We believe the findings will help practitioners, regulators, and institutions move confidently from awareness to action, and position Georgia as a regional leader in ethical, forward-looking digital transformation.
